We had so much success with this last year, we are going to try it again! Chocolate? Starbucks? T.V? Twitter? FB? Hopefully you will be giving up something good this year for Lent. Maybe it will be something new or maybe the same old thing you give up every year. It doesn’t really matter. What is important is that you make yourself aware of the fact that Lent is a time for removing distractions from your life as you try to open up your heart and mind to Jesus.
Join the parish-wide Social Media Challenge this Lent. It works in two ways:
1. Do good works using social media Instead of giving up social media, what if you spoke a little louder for your faith and beliefs during these next forty days? What if you sent a FB message to someone you know who is hurting? What if you sent a tweet to that person who needs your forgiveness? What if you just tried posting a psalm, a prayer, a positive thought on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram? What if you did this for forty days? Do you think it could make a difference?
2. Give it up to make time for God If you still want to “give up” some social media, try giving it up for a day, two days, etc., whatever works best, but during that time, try spending a few minutes or more in prayer, reading a spiritual book or even in silence.
At the end of each week during Lent, share with the parish what it is you are doing or what positive thoughts you are sharing by putting them on a post-it-note that we will have in the narthex and attach it to our Lenten Cross that will be on display. Let’s see by the end of the forty days just what we as a parish have done to bring Christ to others during Lent in 2018. If you have any questions, please contact Susan Sandles.
