DESCRIPTION The Sacristans are responsible for the overseeing and coordination of weekend Masses (currently 5) on a rotating basis and occasionally on Holy Days of Obligation, Baptisms, and other liturgical events.
DUTIES
Opens and closes the Church, checking lights, air conditioning, etc.
Prepares the Sacred Vessels and linens for the celebration of Masses
Sets up for and assists at Adoration, Baptisms, Holy Hours, Confessions, other liturgical events
Ensures adequate volunteers for Mass (Lector, EMHC, Altar servers, etc.)
Assists the priest-celebrant with any needs
Checks liturgical supplies and reports any concerns to Sacristan who orders
Checks Church, Chapel, Sacristy, Ministry Sign-In room for décor and cleanliness
QUALIFICATIONS
Practicing, fully-initiated Catholic. If married, in a union recognized as valid by the Church
Well-organized, responsible and conscientious
Serious about the importance of the Sacred Liturgy; some knowledge of liturgical theology is helpful
Willing to work weekends, some evenings, holidays
Willingness to open and close the church before and after masses, sometimes night times or early mornings
Able to undertake moderate lifting and carrying
Works well with volunteers and clergy
Parish experience as Acolyte, Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, etc. is desired
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Part-time: 12-15 hours per month
