The Eucharist Makes Us the Church: A Letter from Bishop Michael Olson The celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Diocese of Fort Worth is an opportunity for renewal in our common and diverse life as the People of God in North Texas.
It is a time for gratitude for Christ's many blessings in calling us to serve Him and to evangelize and to be evangelized by the people whom we encounter in our daily lives. Our identity and belonging together as the Catholic Church in North Texas are only given to us through Christ's loving and sacrificial gift of the Eucharist.
The Eucharist unites us more integrally than simply our gathering as a congregation of individuals; the Eucharist offers us communion with each other as through its offering we worshipped God as He desires to be worshipped. In short, the Eucharist makes us the Church.
May this year be a time for us to adore Christ in the Eucharist. May this year be a time for us to be renewed in reverence and attentiveness to the celebration of the liturgy. May this year be an opportunity for us to beg Christ in the Real Presence of the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar for holy and grace-filled vocations to the priesthood. May this year be a time of nourishment for the integrity of married couples and the peace of family life with their children. May the compassion offered us by Christ in the Sacrifice of the Mass soften our hearts to assist those most in need of mercy and kindness. May we truly become intentional and aware of our mission and vocation as the Church made so by Christ's selfless gift of the Eucharist.
Most Rev. Michael F. Olson, STD, MA Bishop of Fort Worth
