National NFP Awareness Week
Visit with us after Masses the weekend of July 22/23, 2023
Learn more about the beauty and gift of NFP as we celebrate "National NFP Awareness Week" and the anniversary of the papal encyclical Humanae Vitae, which articulates Catholic beliefs about human sexuality, conjugal love, and responsible parenthood. Natural Family Planning teachers and promoters will be available to answer your questions; stop by to learn more!
What is NFP?
Natural Family Planning (NFP) is a method learned by both husband and wife, which educates them in becoming aware of the bodies physical indicators of fertility. NFP is NOT the “Rhythm Method,” it’s a scientific approach backed by years of research, case studies and practiced by millions worldwide. Natural Family Planning is also the only form of family planning that is in accordance with the Catholic Church's teaching:
"Periodic continence, that is, the methods of birth regulation based on self-observation and the use of infertile periods, is in conformity with the objective criteria of morality. These methods respect the bodies of the spouses, encourage tenderness between them, and favor the education of an authentic freedom. In contrast, 'every action which, whether in anticipation of the conjugal act, or in its accomplishment, or in the development of its natural consequences, proposes, whether as an end or as a means, to render procreation impossible' is intrinsically evil."
Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2370
What is Theology of The Body?
Theology of the Body is a term used to describe Pope Saint John Paul II’s integrated vision of the human person – body, soul and spirit. Theology of the body taught with the NFP method goes beyond the mechanics of preventing or achieving pregnancy. Theology of the Body helps the couple understand what it means to be made in His image and love the way He intended us to love.

Billings Ovulation Method
Taught by Ashley and Walter Johansen at Saint Philip. The Billings Ovulation Method is highly adaptable to women in all stages of life with all patterns of fertility.
Our 2-hour class covers Theology of the Body and an introduction to The Billings Ovulation Method. We will provide a copy of Good News about Sex & Marriage (Revised Edition) by Christopher West as well as other brochures and materials. The couple should then plan on at least 2 follow up one-on-one appointments to further their understanding of the topics discussed in class.
The class has a nominal fee to cover the cost of materials collected at the first appointment.
Classes are by appointment only. Call Ashley or Walter to schedule a class date and time.
