Which MS Program is Right for Me?
-
MS Youth Group is a larger group which meets during the academic year. Each meeting consists of a lesson on faith/morals, some time to practice the faith together (usually some kind of prayer), and a game. MS Youth Group is aimed at:
- Learning the faith at a deeper level than was possible in elementary formation & beginning to engage with more difficult topics of our times.
- Encouragement to holiness & personal practice of our faith.
- Sparking holy friendships with other Catholic youth.

Bible Studies are small, weekly, year-round meetings aimed at:
- Adopting for ourselves the worldview -- the way of understanding reality -- presented to us by Our Lord through the Scriptures.
- We want to understand things the way He does because He is Truth.
- Showing youth how to dig up some of the infinite amount of treasure that our Lord has buried in the Scriptures for us to find.
- Taking example from the Psalms about how God wishes for us to pray.
- Learning from the narratives of the Bible Who God is and what God has done for us.

Primary: MS Youth Group

Wednesdays from 7:15PM-8:30PM downstairs in St. Joseph's Hall during the academic year.

Each meeting includes 3 parts:
- A lesson on faith or morals, aimed at building on the foundation that the students hopefully established in Elementary formation, but it's ok if we need to do some catch-up, too!
- Time to practice the faith, usually some certain kind of prayer. Knowing the faith is great, but doing the faith is at least as important.
- A game to help build good Catholic friendships and develop community among the students.

To sign up, click on the "Enroll" button near the top of this page under the heading "Formation Enrollment."
Then, you will fill out 3 forms: the Enrollment Form at the top of the page, a Form A (medical), and a Form B (liability).
Note: If enrollment is closed, don't worry! It will re-open after formation classes have begun.

Extra: MS Bible Study

Tuesdays from 4:30-5:30pm in 301/Tower Room
- (3rd floor, all the way up the elevator, the big fancy room with the big stained glass)

This isn't quite Lectio Divina, but it's also not a Bible class lecture. It's somewhere in between.
- How the meetings go: After we open with prayer, we'll pray one of the Psalms then briefly discuss anything interesting or important in it. After that, we will move into the narrative book we're reading, and discuss that section by section. I'll have things prepared to talk about from my theology background and from the Church Fathers' commentaries, but everyone should pitch in anything that the Lord gives them. Nobody will be forced to come up with anything, though.
- There is no reading schedule for how fast or how slow we move through Scripture. If we can't find much to say about a section, we'll move through it quickly. Other times, we may spend multiple weeks on one particularly important section.

What else do I need?- The only thing that you're required to bring is yourself.
- I have a set of Bibles with matching translations for everyone to use, so you won't need to bring your own.
- I'd recommend bringing a notebook or some such to jot notes on, but it's not required.

Help with Mass
Youth can help serve Mass as an usher, lector, altar server, or extraordinary minister of Holy Communion (if you've received Confirmation).Preschool/Elementary Helper

Youth can join the choir! No experience is necessary, just a willingness to learn and the commitment to be at choir rehearsals and Mass.**Safe Environment Policies**
Any youth in grades 7th-12th, having contact with children and/or other youth through these various volunteer roles are required to fulfill the Diocese of Fort Worth's Safe Environment program for teens, Teen Leadership. This includes a Volunteer Ministry Application and attendance of their respective Safe Environment Awareness Session for their formation grade.

**Safe Environment Policies**
Anyone having contact with children and youth in Formation is required to fulfill the Diocese of Fort Worth's Safe Environment program. This includes a Volunteer Ministry Application with references, a criminal background check, and attendance of a Safe Environment Awareness Session. After the initial session, volunteers must attend a renewal session every two years. Visit our Safe Environment page for more information.

Home Study Options

For families who would like their children to receive religious formation exclusively at home, we recommend parents take a look at several options to determine which is best for your child. See our recommendations below, listed from least formal to most formal.
- Chosen: This is Your Catholic Faith is a video-centered curriculum produced by Ascension Press. The videos are high production-quality, but slightly kitschy in my opinion. A middle schooler likely wouldn't notice the slight kitschy-ness, but I think a high schooler might. Nonetheless, the content is very good -- clear, orthodox, and extremely easy to digest -- and there are supplemental materials to accompany the videos.

- My Catholic Faith Delivered offers separate courses on a wide selection of topics for grades 1-12. These courses tend to look more like the typical religious ed you might find in a Catholic school, but every course is different. Since every course is different, I am not able to review each one's content, but I especially recommend any of the courses involving Scott Hahn or the Didache series of textbooks (such as "Introduction to Catholicism").

- The Didache Textbook Seriesis an excellent set of textbooks covering a huge range of topics. If you're looking to go the textbook route with religious education for your children, this is the set I'd recommend above all others.
