A generous donor has given a crucifix to our parish to dignify the sanctuary of our new church. The cross is inspired by a 13th century masterpiece but is a unique design, created by artisans of Albl Oberammergau in Germany. The cross will be carved from wood and beautifully painted as in the model below. According to an ancient iconographic tradition, the complete sculpture will include two accompanying statues of Our Lady and St. John, who were both present at the crucifixion of Jesus. These have not been donated yet, and will be ordered as part of the later phase of the church.
The model pictured below is a smaller version that was made for our parish as part of the design process; the completed statues will be life-size!
"Christian iconography expresses in images the same Gospel message that Scripture communicates by words."
~Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1160
