Our children understand and process more than we think they do. Parents know the more consistent routines in our life, the better children do, and going to Mass as a family is no exception. Exposing children to the prayers, sights, sounds, smells, and yes, routine of Mass, is the beginning of understanding the richness of Mass. When busy little minds and bodies start wiggling, try distracting them by pointing out the priest, the altar, the crucifix, and Jesus in the little white host. Get up if you need to. Bring a bag of books or quiet toys.
And yes, take them to the nursery occasionally, if desired.
The nursery is now open for 9 AM, 11 AM, and 5 PM Sunday Masses and takes ages 18 months to 3 years of age.
When preschool and school age children experience Mass, they begin to understand their place in the parish community. We, at St. Philip’s, welcome and celebrate children and we support your family’s pursuit of leading your children to Jesus. Let the joyful noises come!
If you are past the stage of having little ones and you are sitting near families with our youngest parishioners, encourage them with affirming glances or nods and celebrate the joy of Jesus when He said, “Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
