10 concrete buttresses and 4 concrete columns are being built to support our new church and bell tower. These massive structures are especially symbolic, as we recall the words of St. Paul, who compared the Apostles to “pillars” (cf. Galatians 2:9). Fr. McDaniel has written the names of the Apostles, including our parish patron, St. Philip, on the 10 pillars of our new church, reminding us of those first chosen followers of Jesus Christ on whom the Church was built.
Two of the Apostles, Matthew and John, were also Evangelists, or inspired authors of the Gospels. They, along with the other two Evangelists, Mark and Luke, are commemorated on the four columns supporting our bell tower. The upraised tower, with its four pinnacles, reminds us of the Church’s mission to preach the Gospel to the four corners of the world.
