As (hopefully) all of you are aware, we are in the early stages of building a new church to house our rapidly growing community and serve as a monument to our faith in the North Texas area. The prospect of creating, constructing, and sharing a sacred space with all of you has brought great joy to the diocese, the parish, and the local community. This is truly a spectacular event in the life of our church and we intend to treat the entire process with all the reverence, dignity, and respect it deserves. With that in mind, we have been busy evaluating proposals, preparing fundraising initiatives, and procuring land. Today, it is with great pleasure that we are able to open wide the doors and let you in on our plans for the future of St. Philip’s Church.
We have selected and contracted a talented architect for the master planning phase of our building project. His name is James McCrery. He has designed some truly spectacular buildings and churches during his 17 as an architect. His body of work includes the U.S. Supreme Court Bookstore, the statue pedestal for President Reagan now displayed in the Rotunda of the United States Capitol, and numerous Catholic churches built in the classical and traditional style. We chose Mr. McCrery for several reasons: he demonstrates the highest dedication to his field, he has extensive experience in designing and building churches, and he is a talented individual. However, the most important attribute an architect can have when building a Catholic church is faithfulness to the traditions, teachings, and beliefs of the Catholic faith. For Catholics, a church building is more than stone, wood, and glass. A church’s architecture is a standing witness to the precepts of the faith and a physical representation of heaven on earth. We believe Mr. McCrery's past work truly reflects this belief and are delighted to welcome him aboard. You can read more about James McCrery and his work at www.mccreryarchitects.com .
Save the date for a "Meet Our Architect" event on Thursday, November 19, at 7:00 PM. Mr. McCrery will come to our parish in person to talk about our project and to receive the input we are collecting from all of you on Flocknotes and at the Round Table Sessions.
On a final note, for nearly all of you, this will be the first and last church that you will ever build. Take a minute to let that sink in. You are building a church! You have the opportunity to participate in a sacred act—to build a lasting legacy of faith for future generations. What a blessing and a sacred duty! We sincerely hope that you will participate in building your new home by praying, volunteering, and donating to our building funds. We also wish to keep you informed and educated on the entire process. Please check back here for more posts in the future.
