A Special Invitation from the Holy Father The Year of Mercy is an invitation—an invitation to love, share kindness, and offer unbounded generosity. By proclaiming this Jubilee Year, Pope Francis invites us to encounter the incredible mercy of God. What a beautiful chance to enliven our community with the strength of love and mercy!
How can we do this? How can we make a difference in our community? There will always be something we can do to help others. Together, we can reach out to our community and better our world. Pope Francis insists, "Let us rediscover these Corporal Works of Mercy: to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, welcome the stranger, heal the sick, visit the imprisoned, and bury the dead". All of these acts of mercy should be our priority in knowledge and in practice.
Put Faith into Action In partnership with St. Philip’s Social Outreach Ministry, we can put our Faith into action. We believe that God has blessed us with talents and treasures that are to be shared with our brothers and sisters in need. Let’s come together as a Parish to serve God by helping others for this Jubilee Year of Mercy!
Did You Know...
Many of our neighbors in Lewisville, Flower Mound, and Highland Village are struggling with financial problems and they need our help.
1 in 4 children in North Texas live in “food-insecure” households (defined as “having limited or uncertain access to adequate food”). To put matters in perspective, almost 17% of the people living in Denton County (approximately 116,000 individuals) live that way.
While many of our neighbors qualify for assistance through the federal government’s “Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program” or SNAP (formerly known as food stamps), there are many people in our area who still need our assistance. Did you also know that you can’t use SNAP benefits to buy any “non-food items”, including items such as toilet paper or soap? Products we don’t think twice about tossing into our grocery carts can almost seem like a luxury to those struggling financially. Imagine not having enough money to buy diapers, deodorant, toothpaste, laundry detergent or cleaning products. Or… having to choose between buying toilet paper or food!
Start Today! Beginning in July, we started a 4 month program to help our brothers and sisters in Christ with these needed items. Watch the bulletin for information on August, September and October collection items.
For the entire month of August, we will collect the following items at our donation station in the Narthex. Products to donate: Over-the-counter medicines/first-aid items including Band-Aids, Pain Relievers, and Allergy Relief Meds
