Social Outreach has scheduled a kick-off meeting for Tuesday, February 23, at 7 pm in Classroom 7/9 for anyone interested in finding out more about our “Friendly Visitor” program and/or signing up to become a Friendly Visitor.
The Friendly Visitor Program, organized by the Parish Wellness Committee, is overseen by the Social Outreach office. This program matches parishioners who would benefit from meeting fellow members of the parish with Friendly Visitor Volunteers.
The purpose of the Friendly Visitor Program is to encourage social interaction and fellowship among parishioners, especially those who may be at risk of feeling lonely or isolated. Although each case is unique, volunteers generally make visits on the average of once a week for one hour.
Volunteers are always sent out in pairs. Each Friendly Visitor volunteer must current in their Safe Environment training and must complete the basic orientation session for this program.
Possible beneficiaries of the Friendly Visitor Program are those individuals who are:
Homebound
New to the parish (families or singles)
Seniors living in assisted living centers, independent living complexes, nursing homes, or private residences
New moms
Friendly visitor volunteers can:
Engage in conversation
Be a friendly person who will listen and encourage
Share interests
Be someone to reminisce with
Help new parishioners feel more connected to our parish
