If you stopped by one of the info sessions during Come and See Weekend, you saw a presentation of the plans for the first phase of our building project, its estimated cost, and the projected timeline for its construction. If you were not able to attend one of these presentations, keep reading!
Discerning Phase I Once our Site Master Plan was produced by McCrery Architects, it was time to develop a phasing plan that would be affordable and also meet our needs. This discernment process was based on two questions:
What is our parish mission?
What spaces do we need to accomplish that mission?
The answers: The mission of our parish is the glorification of God and the salvation of souls through Word and Sacrament. The spaces we need are defined by four pillars of our parish life:
Liturgical: The primary function of our mission is the celebration of the Sacred Liturgy, the "source and summit of the Christian life", and so the most necessary space in our plan is a place of worship: the Church.
Formational: The catechetical instruction of our children and youth and the continuing formation of adults in the Catholic Faith are important activities requiring a large amount of meeting space.
Administrative: A parish is a human organization with day-to-day concerns such as paying bills and keeping records, and offices are necessary for these activities. Our parish offices also house our Social Outreach program, which assists needs of all kinds in our local community.
Social: Our parish comes together as a community for social functions of all kinds (St. Philip Fest, monthly Pancake Breakfasts, and the upcoming Movie Night), and so a larger space is needed for the group activities that support our parish community life.
So how much of our SIte Master Plan is included in Phase I?
The Church - The Church will house the celebration of Mass, but also social functions; part of the Church will be partitioned off to become a temporary parish hall.
The Adjacent Wing and Cloister - This two-story building will be divided between offices and meeting rooms for RE. The interior cloister garden will be a secure and prayerful space for our Columbarium
Infrastructure - Parking Lots, Roads, Utilities, etc. More details about Phase I buildings coming soon.
