June 1, 2023In devoting ourselves to the Sacred Heart of Jesus we recognize Him as the King of Kings, surrendering ourselves to Him; we continue to honor, serve, and never abandon Him. Through devotion of the Sacred Heart we:
1. Show that we need atonement for sin.
2. Recommit our promise to be united with Christ.
3. Honor His Sacrifice.
Ways to dedicate oneself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus:
Consecration - We devote ourselves completely and totally to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the way that He gave Himself to us on the Cross. This total devotion to our Father can be experienced each time we are able to receive the Holy Eucharist, the very Heart of Christ, at Mass and remembering that Jesus has redeemed us. Join our parish Consecration, which will take place on the celebration of the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart on June 16.
Enthronement - St. Margaret Mary Alacoque enumerated the 12 graces that were bestowed with total enthronement to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, by living in complete union with Jesus by love and obeying His commandments. The enthronement ceremony was approved by Pope St. Pius X in 1908. If you would like to enthrone the Sacred Heart in your home, we have "kits" available in the Parish Office during the month of June.
Reparation - Jesus’ name is often taken in vain, blasphemed, abused by media, and rebuked in everyday conversation. Each time this happens the Wounds to Our Lord are reopened. Our commitment to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is to pray and make reparation for the abuse Jesus receives when His Holy Name is blasphemed.
First Friday Mass - When Our Lord appeared to St. Margaret Mary, He requested going to Reconciliation, attending Mass, and receiving the Holy Eucharist on nine consecutive First Fridays of the month. This novena reminds us of the passion and death of Jesus on the Cross and the sacrifice He made for us and our desire to imitate Him.
Frequent Prayer - Prayer can be a simple invocation in time of need, or any time, with such a simple statement as “Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on me”.
Imitation and Missionary Activity - Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus requires us not only to pray, but also to show by our actions that we are imitators of Jesus Christ. We must forgive our enemies, lay down our lives for each other, and bear our crosses lovingly and patiently.
