Minister Recommitment form for 2010-2011 now on Web; see sidebar at right. Form must be completed by all Liturgical Ministers--Altar Minister, Immersion Baptism Minister, Bread Plate Holder, Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and Hospitality/Usher--and turned in by May 30, 2010.
We offer many ways for you to become involved in the liturgical life of the parish.
Unless otherwise noted, please contact Gail-Ann Coloruotolo if you are interested in volunteering for any of these ministries.
Safe Environment Training
Any adult parishioner who volunteers in Worship Ministries must attend a Diocese of Fort Worth Safe Environment training and complete a criminal background check once every three years. New volunteers must also complete a Volunteer Application Form and give three references.
Altar Bread Bakers
On a rotating schedule, groups gather weekly to bake unleavened bread for our eucharistic celebrations.
Altar Linen Launderers**
On a rotating schedule, individuals launder and press eucharistic linens with timeliness and dependability.
Altar Ministers
There is a great need for people to join this "silent ministry." Work is on a rotating schedule about every 6-8 weeks. Please call the parish office if you can help.
Assist the presider at Mass. Coordinate the liturgical ministers before Mass, participate in processions, the preparation of the Altar, and prepare liturgical items needed for Mass. Candidates must be flexible, efficient, and adaptable, and have previous experience as a Eucharistic Minister.
Bread Plate Holders
Assist at Mass during the distribution of Eucharist by holding the bread plate for Eucharistic ministers. This ministry is usually done by children who have received First Eucharist. Training provided.
Children's Liturgy of the Word Helpers
Help the Children's Liturgy of the Word Presider with maintaining good order at this age-appropriate liturgy. Must be Middle School age or older.
Children's Liturgy of the Word Presiders
Lead the children's portion of the Liturgy of the Word by proclaiming the Gospel to this group setting, and preaching to the children in an age-appropriate manner. Rotating schedule, usually once every 4-6 weeks at Mass of your choice (Saturday 4:00 pm, Sunday 9:30 and 11:30 am). Contact Susan Sandles.
Eucharistic Adoration
Provides an opportunity for parishioners of St. Philip to pray in the presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Thursdays, 10:00 am in the Chapel.
Eucharistic Ministers
Distribute the Body and Blood of Christ during Mass. Rotating schedule, usually every 2-3 weeks at Mass of your choice. Training provided.
Flower Ministry
Part of the Art and Environment team that decorates and enhances our Worship Center. Tasks might be to drive to a wholesale florist to pick up an order, take down an old arrangement and clean vases, or arrange flowers and set them out in the Worship Center.
Hospitality Ministers--Ushers and Greeters
Greet and welcome all who come to celebrate Mass. Offer assistance and direction to any newcomers. Assist with seating people, taking up the collection, keeping good order during the Communion procession, handing out bulletins, offering aid to the disabled and the elderly, or with any emergencies that might occur. Training is provided for the above duties, and offered for building evacuation, CPR, and cardiac defibrillator.
Ministers of the Word--Lectors
Proclaim God's Word in a meaningful and alive manner at Mass, funerals, weddings, or other liturgies. Adequate preparation of the Scriptures is required. Training and coaching provided.
Tapestry Team
Put up and take down of seasonal liturgical tapestries, involving 6-8 hours over the course of the year. Days/times vary.
